It is a reference to actor Humphrey Bogart who was well-known for his indulgence of smoking cigars.If somebody was interesting in things that weren’t considered cool by the majority of people or were involved in “uncool clubs” they would be called a “fruit” by the so-called cool kids.“Beating the drag” refers to driving around with your friends in the car with no real purpose. This was commonly something only said by the cool kids that actually owned cars.Although some people still call clothing threads today, it was a particularly popular way to describe someone’s clothing. You knew you were looking good if someone said they “dug your threads.”“Tripping” was a term used to describe if somebody is acting or saying something that seems completely crazy. If your friend asks you for a favor too big you’d say they are tripping.If somebody is looking at you suspiciously or with disapproval, they were giving you the “hairy eye.” You didn’t want to give someone the hairy eye or else you might find yourself in trouble.“Nanoo, Nanoo” was a greeting phrase that was popularized by the television show Mork and Mindy, a show about two aliens from planet Ork that find themselves living on earth.A person of either gender could be described as a “fox,” which basically meant that they were someone who had above average looks or carried themselves in an attractive way.A jive turkey was a popular insult in the 1970s used to describe someone that is dishonest, makes false promises or exaggerates. It was particularly popular within the African American community.Although there have been countless ways to say throwing up throughout the decades, to “chunder” was a popular one during the 1970s. If you were throwing up behind the bushes at a party, people might say you’re “chundering behind the bushes like a lightweight.”If you were gassin’ it meant that you were talking. However, sometimes it could mean talking in a braggadocios way either about yourself or even someone else, essentially talking someone or something up.Back in the 70s, a head was used to describe someone that was known to frequently use drugs.
